THE STORM

Knocked down from the storm. How sad.

Just a few sticks in the yard! Whew!!!!

We went up to Cedar Rapids yesterday afternoon. Our daughter lives up there and we haven't seen her for a bit. We visit her at work often. She works for Dick's Sporting Goods, Cedar Rapids. Now there's a store you can take your husband and you both are happy shopping in. A "something for everyone" store. (Back to the story). All the way up there (1 1/2 hr. drive) the sky was dark as ever, like a huge storm, but seemed to be going around us. While we were in the store, it hit, pouring rain. We waited it out for a bit then decided to hit the road. It wasn't bad driving in. All the way home (Took 380 to Riverside, then hit 22 and came in to Muscatine, ya know, the back way, instead of 80 to Wilton). We noticed the already weakened from the rain corn fields, looked like they were laying flat and everything was flooded. wow! The storm must have gone right through everywhere we were driving. all the way home! Got back to Muscatine, filled up with E85 down Southend, ya know, past the pink house (that's Sharons at Sweet Repose, Honest folks, her house is pink and cute and chippy, and all her!) Got a bite to eat at Good Earth (excellent food). Ran into neighbors while there and found out we had no power and huge storm went through our neck of the woods. So we bolted our food and raced home. Not much damage at all in our yard. My hubby will start checking the fields for downed limbs when he can get his 4 wheeler through the mud. There's someones trampoline 300 ft. in on a bean field. Weird!! So we got to try out the generator that my husband and the Electric Co. set up in case of no power. Quite amazed by that set up. In minutes we have power to everything and it all runs off a generator in the machine shed. Dang, even running HOT water!!! So we were watching the 10 p.m. news which by the way was running off generator power also, they said Nichols, IA had 4.3" of rain and 80 mph winds... Holy Smokes People! We drove right through there. That's why the corn was laying flat!!! Sure glad we weren't on the road then. The best part of all this was, I got to see my baby girl beaming as she showed her dad and I her engagement ring, a beautiful solitare diamond in the most dainty antique white gold setting. She wears a size 4 3/4 ring size, she is just a tiny one. Her husband-to-be picked it out all by himself, not knowing her ring size and it fit perfect!!! You did good my new son-to-be.....

  2. All is flat in the land of PINK...what a storm!!! My power flicked off for a minute or so, right after I heard this sickening electrical zap of a lightning bolt. Then the winds, just like hurricane Charley...then I looked to the garden, the 5 foot wall of snow peas had been laid flat against the beans and my beautiful lil' corn patch is as flat as a pancake...oh well, such is life on the wild prairie. A few limbs down, but nothing major...Piper was freaked per normal and in the basement while Rick was running to the garage freezer for a pizza...nothing comes between a man and his stomach...ha!

Hope your fields of dreams fared bettern' mine...later friend...s

  4. I was without power for about 5 hours! Luckily it wasn't fully dark outside the whole time. However my garage door was open, and the cord to the manual release broke off. Fannie paced through the house while I read a book. Everytime this happens I think "now why haven't I purchased a generator yet???"
Congrats to Tracie!!! Do we get to have another wedding party?? Good Times.

  5. So glad you got home safe and sound. And congratulations to the newly engaged couple. I am so happy for them, and hope I get a invite to the wedding! We sure could use some of that rain here in TX. We are at about a 6" deficit for the month. Seems its either feast or famine with rain this year.

  7. Wow, it sounds like a big storm! i was at work and missed the whole thing. Today i noticed an anglewing begonia was blown over, pot shattered. Congrats to your daughter tracie, She looks pretty happy in the picture. In sonias book i'm on page 192. There sure is alot of inspiration in that book!! Midge took me a winter to complete. I just drew a design on her and just used all my scrap glass from stained glass projects. That's why it's sort of a abstact flower design.
