So every once in a while (more times than necessary) I get stumped with a little dilemma and have to figure out a solution. Ya know, one of those things us wives are just supposed to have an answer for. My husband's daily farming uniform includes wearing a baseball type hat. Now these things get filthy, I mean, greasy, stinky, yuck! And if you machine wash them, they lose their shape. Heaven forbid they not have the proper shape to them. So in order to please us both, clean and proper shape. Introducing the "Create a Shape" plastic bag. Yes, these wonderful treasures that we receive anything in from designer jeans to toilet paper can serve the purpose of creating a shape. Just one more reason to keep them out of the land fill. First, I throw his hats in with those disgusting jeans. No special soap, no nothing. Then I stuff the hat with these bags as tight as possible, taking care to shape it before I hang them up to dry. They will dry overnight. Disclaimer: If you are afraid of the colors bleeding, you are taking that risk. I am not responsible!!! I have never had one bleed color, but that's not to say that it couldn't happen. Frankly, I would rather have clean! Just one more little trivial trick in our house....
Great solution. They do make cap frames for the washer & dryer if your interested.
ReplyDeleteI know they make those frame thingys. I think I was first in line to get one. It didn't work for me. Caps don't seem to be one size frame fits all caps. Then there was the whole wash one cap at a time thing...Just sold it at a garage sale for a quarter!
ReplyDeleteAs I always say, you are certainly a clever woman! Guess I didn't realize farmers even wanted their hats washed... just kidding. (My dad was a farmer ya know.)
ReplyDeleteI've heard of people who wash them in the dishwasher - - - but then I wonder about all that hat "ick" getting on the DISHES!?!
ReplyDeleteLooking at my guy's hat, not sure I would want that stuff floating on my dishes!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, Lori! Always getting the looking for destroying another hat...LOL...
ReplyDeleteHey Girlie!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog! My Dad always wore a cap, to keep the sun out of his eyes, and when using the cutting torch, he'd turn it backwards, {I think the 'rapper's' got it from him, he looked way cooler tho...} Great gadget!
