ONE YEAR AGO

One year ago we were at the last stages of getting ready for a wedding. Everything was taking place in Burlington, IA. This was the beginning of the worst flood in the area in decades. Aaron and Ami had everything done, all the out of state-rs were coming or here already and we were packing things up for the hour commute to the Catfish Bend Casino and Pzazz where we were staying for the whole weekend. The wedding, reception, food and entertainment could not have been better. On Sunday, we all packed up and were able to get over the bridge to the Illinois side and 5 hours later the bridge was closed. The levee broke and literally wiped out a small town of Oakville. There were several of the wedding party from Cedar Rapids including my daughter and her fiance. The maid of honor and her boyfriend had just bought a house, which was now under water. The devastation was horrid. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2008/06/mississippi_floodwaters_in_iow.html

(BE SURE TO GO TO THESE PICS, IT IS UNBELIEVABLE WHAT THE RAGES OF RUNNING WATER CAN DO)

But through it all, everyone was safe, the celebration of a marriage was the best and we were all together! Family that hadn't been together for a really long time all under one roof, celebrating the union of two... Despite the drama, we were all very happy people.

  2. Just came by to thank you for your nice comment on my blog. I love the name of your blog, "Altered Glass" and the opening photo. Beautiful! Then I read this post and looked at the pictures of the terrible flooding. SO much worse than the national news coverage portrayed which I so well remember from last year. The contrast between that devastation and the joy on the faces in the picture of the wedding party is a testimony that NOTHING is more powerful than love! Such courage and spirit. What a wonderful post.
