Hummingbirds

I don't really know alot about hummingbirds other than they are interesting to watch and they EAT/DRINK all the time. I should google them and get more info. Each year it seems as soon as I put food out, they appear from nowhere. Just one day the feeders are filled with them. Four turn into eight real fast. They seem to be quite territorial and spend more time warding off the others than feeding. So I just keep boiled sugar water on hand because it gets to the point that I will fill 2 feeders every other day. I know there are people that literally have swarms of these little buggers around! I have seen the pictures. I don't really want feeding them to turn into a job, so I am happy with the eight or so that I have. And frankly, Felix can only handle so many in His window. If you have any info that I need to know, please share.

  1. Hahaha... that's exactly what my cat likes to do when the birds are around. I haven't put up my hummingbird feeder yet, but I think I'll do it today! Love them!

Oh, thanks for your kind words on my blog... too kind really!

  2. Oh, OK, so now I know where all of MY missing birdies are! LOL
We had a nest last year and it was sooo fun to watch and wait - then to actually SEE the babies and watch their first flight! We called it our "Hummer-Summer"! I HOPE they come back this year :-)

  4. So jealous of your hummingbirds! For 5 or 6 years, I had one directionally challenged hummingbird that showed up in my hollyhocks, always looking a bit confused and hungry. He's stopped coming, now, so I assume he either got the 411 from another hummingbird, or died of exhaustion trying to reach a more temperate climate....
