I have planted so many new flowers and I thought instead of putting them on the blog randomly, I would start FAVORITE FLOWER FRIDAY....
Today's flower is a Dahlia.
I discovered this when working at the greenhouse. I never had planted Dahlias. It is a new thing for me. The back of the tag says it provides a summer-long display of showy blooms atop strong stems. Perfect for containers on patios and decks as well as in the border. Makes an excellent cut flower (I did put mine right in the ground). Care: Plant in rich, well drained soil to slightly dry between thorough waterings. Apply fertilizer once every two weeks during growning season. FULL SUN.
Lift and store tubers in cold climates. BONUS... These can be lifted and planted the next year!!!
I THINK I HAVE A NEW LOVE IN FLOWER LAND, AND THE COLORS ARE BRILLIANT!
Back in the day, when Piper was a wee heathen, we lived next door to some really ___hole neighbors, but the old folks knew how to garden, boy could she grow dalias. A whole row, every year...they taught me a valuable life lesson, you can grow old without being an ___hole!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never bought an iris in my life, just borrowed some from old homesteads, that's what I don't get about this, they look like hybrids, they're huge!!! I'll gladly accept this gift Ma Nature...she's a good ol' gal!
Goin' to the shop today...fa la la la la!
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty. We are working on getting more color into our yard this year. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteLovely flower. Mine aren't doing well with the dust and heat. Our growing season is over, except for those plants that are acclimated to this climate. Enjoy all your colors blooming around you. :) Tammy
