CARDMAKING ... FOR BEGINNER ME

So when I was visiting in FLA, I followed my mom around to all her activities that she does. She is a go-er and keeps quite busy pretty much everyday. These are the women she gets together with every other Tuesday morning for card making. They gather at Sharon's house, who is a Stampin' Up Consultant (right hand side orange shirt) to make cards. First of all, I had no idea about Stampin' Up. I guess I have been living in the back woods too long. I learned about coloring and painting and stamping and cutting and a few good jokes (which I can't ever remember a joke). Then we ate lunch. They usually go out for lunch but this day they were celebrating my mom's birthday so Sharon's husband cooked hamburgers on the grill and we had quite a huge spread of food, buffet style... Thanks Sharon and all the girls, for including me in the activities and your personal hand holding for one who just had no clue about card making.
Here are the cards we made.... We stamped images on the cards with black ink. Then, all the painting was done with ink and a special kind of watercolor brush with water in the handle of the brush. We also used bleach and a particular brush to go around the edges and any of the white showing on the tan page.

I found out you can mail these cards in this clear 6 X 4 1/2 inch envelope. Just put a label on it, your return address label and a postage stamp. The P.O. will accept it for mail... COOL....

Honestly, card making was fun. Not something I would dive into, but it is always good to keep open to new ideas, new mediums. Ya never know when you might use them!!!

ONE OF THE FIRST

This is one of the first stones I ever did. When I was in FLA I took this picture. My mom has had this sitting on a step under her carport for ohhh, maybe 5 years. It has weathered well. I know she hasn't really moved it from that spot at all and had I cleaned it first, it would have looked fairly new.
P.S. If this stone was out in the elements, it should have been sealed every couple of years. I put a sealant on my stones so that the weather doesn't eat at the cement and stones should go inside if your weather is extreme. Also don't let sealant sit on the glass, it will etch or cloud it.

LITTLE DID I KNOW....

Little did I know......

This number was going to be etched in my brain for 10 hours last Friday, due to mechanical trouble.....

This was my home away from home for a 10 hour sit-down. "Don't go anywhere passengers. We could be fixed here at any time." 10:00am........tick, tick, tick, tick.... More magazines...... fast food, real fast! Don't want to miss any announcement..... restroom, quickly........tick, tick, tick.......

5:00pm...."Well, we are going to have to call off the flight. We're sorry folks.... We will be offering each of you a free round trip ticket, hotel room if needed, and food voucher. Just give us time to process each of you with these things." tick, tick, tick, tick.........

8:00pm..... Walking to the airport exit, catching a shuttle to a hotel. Wonderful hotel, beautiful room, vending machine supper (I'm too chicken to head out in the dark on foot to find something to eat!) Wake up call at 5:30am.... free hot breakfast at the hotel that was great..... 7:00am shuttle back to the airport, in the air by 9:00am -Atlanta 10:00am.... tick, tick, tick........THEN I DISCOVERED THE BEST SUBS... Charley's Grilled Subs... Atlanta Airport.. by Gate C13....

They have the best Philly Chicken grilled sub with everything, of course, green peppers, onions. It was delicious!!! Okay, back to my gate..... tick, tick, tick...... more magazines.....
3:30pm loading on the plane..... 4:00pm takeoff... on time and in the air..... 5:00pm on the ground!!!! Ohhhhh so happy!!!!
All in all, I am thankful I was just traveling alone and didn't have a schedule or commitment like so many of the passengers. Two people were missing weddings. A few families were going through this with small children.
Lots of freebies...... I got to experience 1st class for the 1st time, round trip ticket, $50 voucher for another ticket, food voucher, hotel room....
And I met some of the nicest people, all in the same boat as I....
THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME.... THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME......
